Are We Sheep?

Living out in the country, I pass a sheep farm every time I leave my home. There is nothing any cuter than young lambs playing in the field. Two sheep dogs watch over the flock day and night. Sheep are basically timid animals, herding together is their only form of protection from predators. Interestingly, each sheep follows the one in front of it. If the leader runs off the edge of a cliff, the whole flock follows him.

Psalm 100:3 “Know that the Lord himself is God, it is He who has made us and not we ourselves. We are his people and the sheep of his pasture.”

I believe we are to follow the teaching and instructions set out for us in the Lord’s word. I am amazed at how many Christians fall away from those teachings and listen instead to men and women who claim to be teachers of the word. Many people listen to television Evangelical’s without ever comparing their message to the words of the bible and are being led astray.

I saw a story the other day on a Christian site I follow, and it really showed me how many people just believe whatever they are told without verifying anything for themselves.  A young Christian producer posted the following bible verse and asked for thoughts on it. Luke 4:6 “To you I will give all authority, for it has been delivered to me and I will give it to whom I will.” I was blown away by the fact that not one person on this Christian site pointed out that these words were spoken by the devil when he tempted Jesus in the wilderness. They all thought these were words spoken by Jesus.  How easily they were deceived. Too many people who say they are Christian are following false teachers and false doctrine.

1 Thessalonians 5:21 tells us to, “Test all things, hold fast to what is good.”

We are sheep, in need of a savior and protector. The world is a dangerous place filled with wolves in sheep’s clothing. Put on the armor of God and be on your guard so that you are not deceived.

Acts 20:28-29 “Keep watch over yourselves and all the flock of which the holy spirit has made you overseers. Be shepherds of the church of God, which he bought with his own blood. I know that after I leave, salvage wolves will come in among you and not spare the flock.

Jeremiah 23:1 “Woe to the shepherds who are destroying and scattering the sheep of my pasture, declares the Lord.”
